TL;DR: Futures aren’t a money printer. Learn the rules first.
Binance futures let you control larger positions with small margin. Right direction → amplified profits. Wrong direction → instant liquidation.
This guide isn’t telling you to trade futures. It’s telling you what to understand before you do. If you haven’t mastered spot trading, fees, and KYC — start there first.
Spot vs Futures: The Core Difference
| Dimension | Spot | USDⓈ-M Perpetual |
|---|---|---|
| What you hold | Real coins | Long/short position |
| Can you lose everything | Only if coin goes to zero | Liquidation when margin insufficient |
| Leverage | None | 1x-125x |
| Expiry | None | None (perpetual) |
| Funding rate | None | Every 8 hours |
| Best for | Everyone | Those who understand leverage |
Spot = buying groceries. Futures = borrowing to trade stocks. If you borrow, understand interest, margin calls, and stop-losses first.
Core Concepts
Margin
Locked funds when you open a position. More margin = further liquidation price = safer.
Two margin modes:
| Mode | Logic | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Cross | All available funds as margin | Experienced, multi-position |
| Isolated | Only your specified amount | Beginners (recommended) |
Beginner rule: use Isolated margin. You only lose what you lock — the rest of your account stays safe.
Leverage
100 USDT × 10x = $1,000 position. Price up 10% → +100 USDT (double your money). Price down 10% → -100 USDT (wiped out).
| Leverage | Position from 100U | Approx. drop to liquidation |
|---|---|---|
| 1x | $100 | ~100% |
| 5x | $500 | ~17% |
| 10x | $1,000 | ~8% |
| 20x | $2,000 | ~4% |
| 50x | $5,000 | ~1.5% |
Beginners: 3x-5x maximum. Above 20x isn’t trading — it’s gambling.
Liquidation Price
When margin drops below maintenance margin → forced close → your margin = 0.
Binance shows your liquidation price before you open. If it’s too close to current price, your leverage is too high.
Funding Rate
Every 8 hours, longs and shorts pay each other.
- Positive rate = longs pay shorts (bullish market)
- Negative rate = shorts pay longs (bearish market)
High funding rate + long position = you bleed money even if price stays flat. Long-term holding with high funding = bad idea.
Stop-Loss / Take-Profit
Set these BEFORE you open, or immediately after.
| Order type | Use |
|---|---|
| Take-profit limit | Auto-sell at target |
| Stop-loss limit | Auto-sell at stop (may not fill if price gaps) |
| Stop-loss market | Instant market sell at stop (faster, possible slippage) |
Iron rule: set stop-loss immediately after opening.

BNPRIME Rebate for Futures
Futures trading = high frequency = fees add up. Register with BNPRIME for 20% fee kickback.
But rebates don’t prevent liquidation. They help with costs, not direction.
FAQ
What are Binance futures?
Derivatives using margin for larger positions. Amplifies both gains and losses.
Futures vs spot?
Spot = real coins. Futures = positions. Spot can’t liquidate. Futures can.
Most common beginner mistake?
Too much leverage, no stop-loss, ignoring funding rates.
What leverage is right?
Beginners: 3x-5x. Don’t touch 20x+.
Can I recover from a losing futures position?
Add margin, reduce leverage, wait. But if liquidation is close, adding margin might be throwing good money after bad. Stop-loss = admitting you’re wrong.
